Sony Delays Motion Controller To Fall 2010

While I am not sure if it is due to the controller not being ready, or because they want to go with a global launch, Sony has decided to delay the release of their new motion controller for the PS3 until the Fall of 2010.  In the press release they talk about a global launch strategy, but I have to wonder if Sony is have the same issues Microsoft is having in getting developers to rally around the motion control devices.

If anyone remembers, Microsoft was touting the huge amount of grade “A” titles that would be coming out using motion control on the Xbox 360.  Most developers hae scaled back from those initial announcements, making it sound like their strategies will be focused more on niche titles than blockbusters.

With that said, it will be interesting to see both of these new motion control devices go up against the Wii during Holiday 2010.  Does anyone wonder who wins that fight.  After this holiday season, I have no doubt who the victor will be.

Check the jump for all the details in the press release.

Yes it was supposed to start in Japan in early 2010, but I think they're smart to rally developer support for the fall instead of launching with almost nothing to support it.

Selling an add-on is hard, and really until it's in LittleBigPlanet as they demoed it before I'm not sure I feel I need to get it.

If Haygood would have read my predictions on the podcast, I might be able to tie this in more… >:O

Any who… In my predictions I said that Natal would release with much more support than Sony's wand. I think Sony has recognized that Microsoft is really reaching out to different developers and publishers, whereas they have been viewing it as more of a side project.
