Our lack of PlayStation Move coverage speaks volumes

Opinion coming: I mean, whatever.
There’s some nice write-ups at Kotaku, but the Move announcements smell like more motion-controlled crap mini-games. How is it that something like this can launch four years after the Wii came …

GTA Episodes from Liberty City Are Coming to PS3 After All

Submitted by Paul Munn on January 29, 2010 – 12:31 amComments

gta4cityscapeI know you’re going to be bored, PS3 owners, with MAG out now, White Knight Chronicles coming in February along with Heavy Rain and the likes of God of War III, Final Fantasy XIII, and Yakuza 3 in March. You were really hungry for something more, right? How about the digital release and in-store Blu-ray version of GTA Episodes From Liberty City featuring the two formerly Xbox 360-exclusive add-on adventures for Grand Theft Auto IV? Those will apparently be hitting retail and the PlayStation Store on March 30th.

I’m happy to see them show up and I’m definitely going to be picking up a disc copy for two reasons. One, I’m pretty short on hard drive space on my PS3 and two, it’s guaranteed to be discounted at some point at retail. Once again, I’m looking to save a few bucks. It’ll be nice to see Yakuza 3 get compared to it if it makes its March release date.

Full press release after the jump.

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City Coming to PlayStation(R)3 This Spring

Experience the Exhilarating Final Chapters in the Grand Theft Auto IV Saga

FOSTER CITY, Calif., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ — Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) announced today that Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City will release for PlayStation®3 (PS3(TM)) computer entertainment system on March 30, 2010. Created by RockStar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:TTWO), PS3 fans will have the opportunity for the first time to experience the last two exciting chapters of the Grand Theft Auto IV saga together on one standalone Blu-ray(TM) disc, or as individual episodes available for download on PlayStation®Network.

In the first episode, The Lost and Damned, players will become immersed in the dark underworld of Liberty City and its motorcycle gangs led by Johnny Klebitz and The Lost motorcycle club. Players will follow the shady exploits of Luis Lopez in the second episode, The Ballad of Gay Tony, as he becomes involved in Liberty City’s fast-paced, corrupt nightclub scene. Both episodes feature new vehicles, weapons, and music.

“Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City has been one of the most requested gameplay experiences by PlayStation fans, and we’re thrilled to finally bring the closing chapters of the GTA IV story from one of the biggest franchises in gaming to PS3,” said Rob Dyer, senior vice president of publisher relations, SCEA.

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City for PS3 will become available in stores on March 30, 2010 in North America at a recommended retail price (RRP) of $39.99. I'm gonna be sad when the Mass Effect series is no longer a 360 (and PC, but who really cares about that?) exclusive. :'(

Other press releases (not from Sony, heh) are showing it's coming to the PC at the same time.

  • Yes, this is great news indeed. I have been looking for a reason to hit up Grand Theft Auto IV, but I kept holding out hope that the episodes would be coming to the PC at some point. Adding the achievements was the killer, because they are starring you in the face, mocking you while you cannot get the DLC. I guess I have to wonder why they added them so soon for the PC, when they were not going to release it until March 30th. Or did Microsoft pull the plug on getting the PC versions out earlier.

At the end of the day, no one should be surprised by this announcement, because as we all know, exclusive means nothing nowadays.
  • The funny thing is that over a month ago, they added the achievements to the PC version for the first installment of the DLC, The Lost and the Damned, but they still have yet to announce it for the PC. At this rate, I assume the PS3 will get the DLC before the PC will. Thanks Microsoft and Rockstar for that special gift.
  • The lesson? Never trust "exclusive" when it applies to a third party.
