Aeropodcast #118: Congressional Hearings You Know Where

Submitted by on January 31, 2010 – 1:49 pm17 Comments

nintendo_wii_1This week on the Aeropodcast, we had Joe and Joe discussing the insane numbers that Nintendo did during the month of December.  The fact that the Nintendo Wii outsold the PS3, PS2, PSP and Xbox 360 combined was amazing.   We also went back in time and reminisced about our very own Koss and his thoughts on the Wii’s sale trends through the holiday season.  It was not pretty.

Also, we had a discussion about community, as we noticed a lot more of our listeners hitting up the forums this week, and that is great.  However, we stressed the need for more of our listeners to show up and take part in a growing community.

As always, the podcast is mixed together by our very own Stephen “Kid Capri” Munn and his very own wheels of steel.  Our bumper music, Droid Girl, is provided by Lazyitis, and make sure to visit their MySpace page.

Download the podcast from here or subscribe to the podcast using one of the services below.   Also make sure to review us on iTunes and visit our Facebook group.

That is really coincidental. I just made a post in the forums about how more people need to partake in the community. Great minds think alike.

We here at Aeropause hope you enjoyed those six minutes.

Yeah, I'm still trying to upload the file and it keeps stopping, when it connects at all.

Six minutes is about all I can take of Fourhman anyway. I bet you didn't know this, but I actually have to take breaks at six minute intervals during every episode to vomit. JK, love ya Fourhman.

Uploading it as we speak. Should be done shortly.

Apparently, I completely forgot to uploading it during my post creation and what not. My mistake. By the time you read this, it should be downloading accordingly.

Like Red Hots, Rod Stewart, and Animal Crossing, I am best in small doses.

I love Wii-focused Aeropodcast. I love hearing you fumble to understand why New Mario Wii is such a hit/bigger than Galaxy. I love that Koss was MIA for his public shaming.

I like when I'm mentioned, too. Always, not just on this podcast. Truly, I'll pay attention to anything that talks about me. It's my favorite subject…next to Nintendo's chronic success and its devastating impact on all who dare question TEH BIGG ENNNN!

I don't think anybody predicted that NSMBW would sell as well as it has. It arrived in a busy holiday season, was not included in many platform-agnostic GOTY lists, and was at the tail end of a dull year for Nintendo. Galaxy had huge hype behind it and was cock-of-the-walk for months. With NSMBW, most of the online discussion was solely about the plusses/minuses of the Super Guide feature.

But the casualies came out in force. It will be interesting to see if Galaxy 2 tops both of them, thanks to the increased numbers of Wiis out there, or if the genuine reason behind NSMBW's success was due to the intense similarity to the classic Mario games (thus not as threatening to non-gamer/lapsed-gamer/casual gamer Wii owners.)
