Ubisoft revisits the well for Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

While this game was touched upon in Adam’s summary of the event, I’d like to talk about it some more. I wonder if I’m the only one experiencing mixed feelings over Ubisoft’s revelation of their new Prince of Persia game. Forgotten Sands is being pitched as a sequel to Sands of Time, the first in the modern product line from last generation, which is a great game. Or, well, it was. You see, I thought last year’s Prince of Persia on PS3, 360, and PC was pretty damn fantastic. Not only did it control exactly how I wanted it to, it had a great story and it looked and sounded unlike anything I’d ever experienced. While I had similar feelings about Sands of Time years ago when it was new… I’m over it.

Capping that sensation is this trailer, which tries so very hard to be exciting, but fails. Why does the motion of the prince look so unnatural? Aren’t we past the days of spooky, unnatural movement by video game characters? In a cutscene, no less?

Oh, and can we stop taking Spike seriously for anything to do with video games, please?

Excellent point. Why did we all freak out about VGA announcements? Who even backs those awards? They're just as weighty as all the smalltime GOTY lists that are populating all the gaming websites this month.

With the exception of Flower and NSMBW, the entire list of awards was all the same bang-bang type of game anyway.
