PS3 Firmware Update 3.10 Up and Live

Submitted by Joe Haygood on November 19, 2009 – 1:59 amComments

sony_ps3480It is always a nice surprise to log into your PS3 and see that there is a new update for your machine.  I was unaware that a new firmware update was coming to the PS3, but it seems that the 3.10 update has been in the works for a little while now.  So far, I do not see much change in the interface, save that I can change the background of my display card that others will see in their friends list.  Also, it now tiles up pictures, according to the notes, but I had no pictures on the system to see if this was true.

Another item that I cannot verify is Facebook integration.  I have read on several other sites that there is some basic Facebook integration, but I could not find it anywhere.

If you want the latest firmware, just head to the System Update selection under the Settings section of the XMB.  It is a small update, and took about 15 minutes max to download and install.

I set it up with my Facebook account right away, but haven't been to Facebook since to see what the results look like. Doesn't help that I've not played any PS3 games since, except maybe Rock Band 2.

Doesn't matter.. It's buggy/broken. Last night it status'd trophies I earned weeks ago, instead of the ones I earned last night.
  • Has worked fine for me so far, reporting trophies from two games more or less within a day after getting them.

You knuckleheads. It's under the Account Management menu, just like they showed in the demo video.

Hey! I resemble that remark! And, since I view most of web at work or on my BlackBerry, video viewing doesn't happen. So I missed that. I'm going to give that a spin when I get home tonight. Thanks for the info.
  • There will not be another Uncharted 2 incident. It is podcasting time tonight!!!!!!!!!

No Facebook, yet. It was not in the notes, and that's something QUITE noteworthy if you ask me.

I'm betting it was pulled from 3.10 for now b/c of some minor glitches.
  • Well somebody has it because I'm already seeing PSN updates in my Facebook friends list.

Hmm.. I'll have to dig deeper then, b/c gosh darn it (!!!) I want Facebook spam from my PS3 to combat all of the MafiaFarm spam that decided to fill up my BB's Facebook app. (thanks BB/Facebook!)
  • It was not in the notes from the update, but other sites have reported that some Facebook stuff was in the update. I wonder if it was in the initial update, but pulled later in the day. Just a thought.
  • I always forget that you can download the firmware updates from the web and apply them. Just another one of those little features that I have to admit is very cool.
  • I did not know this!

I downloaded the 3.10 update as well but am also not sure how it works with Facebook.
