Mass Effect 2 Gets the Obligatory Special Edition Treatment

Submitted by on November 5, 2009 – 1:22 pm6 Comments

MASS2Cx360PFT_FrontBioware and Electronic Arts made the announcement that Mass Effect 2 would have a special edition release, adding several bonus items for your extra dollars.

Coming in a tin box package, Mass Effect 2 Special Edition will ship with a copy of Mass Effect 2, a 48-page “The Art of Mass Effect 2″, a copy of the first issue of the Mass Effect Redemption comic book and a pack-in DVD that has a “Making of” documentary and more.

More controversial will be several special weapons that you will only be able to get if you purchase the special edition of Mass Effect 2.  Currently there are no plans to put these weapons out as DLC later, so it will give those that buy the Special Edition, a leg up on those that buy the normal version of the game.  Since it is a single player game, it is not a balance killer, but I just hate it in general when a developer and/or publisher decides extra weapons should only be available to you if you spend more money on a deluxe edition of a release.

If you are interested in the Mass Effect 2 Collectors Edition, you can pick it up for $69.99 on the Xbox 360, or $59.99 on the PC.  Check the jump for a few extra details in the press release.

Ah, but will there be a special edition strategy guide? Or night vision goggles?

  • mclazyj says:

This isn't “Bleed you dry” Activision. It is only “Sap a little extra” EA.

  • Jordan_Snyder says:

Special Editions are whack. We need more special editions along the lines of Modern Warfare 2. Take out the art book and making-of garbage to reduce the price. Things like the night-vision goggles and the downloadable voucher for the original Call of Duty are what I really want. They should cut back on packaging too. No one really needs those metal boxes.
