Aeropodcast #109: Fourhman vs. Mario

Submitted by Joe Haygood on November 23, 2009 – 11:56 pmComments

fourhman vs mario

This week on the mighty Aeropodcast, we take a break from serious issues to find ways for all of you listeners to save money on your gaming purchases this Black Friday.  For the uninitiated, Black Friday is named after the day that retailers normally end up going into the black for their year end profits.  For shoppers, Black Friday has come to mean ridiculous deals that require people to wait outside stores for umpteen hours, while trying not to trample someone to death when the store opens.

Our deals cover the gamut, from DS to PSP and all of the major consoles.  As a matter of fact we even hit a few PC deals, so no one is left out.  If you think we missed a good deal, make sure you leave it in the comments, so everyone can get in on the best deals of the day.  Also, take note that a lot of stores will price match, but they will want to see the advertisement, so make sure to pick up a paper on Wednesday and Thursday of this week, so you make sure you get all the relevant ads.

Lastly, Koss put together a rapid fire section, which was highly entertaining.  If you want more rapid fire sessions, make sure to send them in or post them in the forums.  As always, the podcast is mixed together by our great DJ Hero, Stephen Munn, and stars the music of Lazyitis.  The band has a shout out for all Aeropause fans, so go over there and check out their MySpace page.

    If I still had a Wii I'd pick a black Wii-remoot.
  • And just so everyone is clear, I do know about NSMBW Quicksave. But the Quicksave sucks too. There's no reason why a 2009 game can't have old school challenge but modern user-friendly features.

Fourhman, by the way, did you know there's a Quicksave in New Super Mario Bros Wii? It's true! All you have to do is press + and then select "Quick save" from the menu. It puts a shiny red balloon on your game load screen to show you there's a Quick save! So all you have to do is be good enough at the game to not run out of lives and you'll be set. That's why I keep a stockpile of 20+ lives at all times.

OK, enough teasing. Seriously, though, if you run low on lives, go back to an earlier world and stage to stock up. The opportunities for farming 1ups in this game are completely out of control.

Also, I wish I'd heard the whole podcast before naming it. I would have called it either "Jane, his wife" or "It's Jensen. JENSEN, you fool."
  • Boo to circa-1989 workarounds to fix a lameass save structure! Every other game in the world has figured out how to autosave without ever risking a player losing hours of gametime. It shouldn't even be a potential to lose your accomplishments, barring a Katrina-level total system failure. Nintendo needs to drop the whole concept of lives and continues and game overs.
