I first saw Jimmy Fallon on an episode of Diggnation where (amongst other things) he discussed how he was going to treat videogame releases as he would a big movie premiere on his show, which excited me. He’s had Project Natal on, but now he’s featured one of the greatest human beings walking the earth today: Tim Schafer. Schafer discussed the upcoming Rocktober (yes, I’ve swallowed the marketing whole) release of this title, and it strikes me that this could be the sign of gaming hitting the mainstream. I’m not talking about cheerful news advertorials about the Wii, or Fox going off on one about sex and violence in videogames corrupting the children of the world etc, but games being taken seriously as a creative medium. When a game such as BrĂ¼tal Legend, which arguably has fairly niche appeal – well, it’s not CoD or Halo – is being featured on prime-time television, and discussed seriously… one hopes it’s a bellweather of things to come.
