So, um, Home might be broken

homeupsidedownNot that you’re trying, but you may not be able to get PlayStation Home to load at the moment.

Ever since this week’s update to v1.3, the PlayStation forums have been packed with complaints of Home not loading. You can install the 1.3 update, but when you try to load Home after that, it may hang somewhere on the loading screen. For me, it stops on “initializing.” The entire PS3 then goes unresponsive and the only way out is to do a hard reset.

If you believe the general consensus, the issue is somehow related to where your avatar was last saved. If you ended your previous Home session in a personal space (like the Harbour apartment or the Batcave Outpost), that will trigger the failure to load.

Some forum members – and I am not endorsing this plan of action – suggest that you can delete and re-install Home to “fix” the problem. But plenty of posts say this did not fix it. Other members started deleting specific save files related to personal spaces.

I think the cautious way to proceed is to just not go into Home until Sony comes clean on this and delivers 1.3.1.

Is this really a bad thing? I mean Home is pretty much a Joke.

Well, disappointing. I like bowling on there… and the exact same thing happened to me.. Ehhh.. reinstalling home.. Worth a shot, but I don't know. I might just wait for 1.3.1 since the ps3 I use is at a friend's place. I think I may have last ended at the zombie place or batman place… then again. I don't remember. Nevertheless, disappointing.

The fix worked for me. After a couple days of Sony not saying anything on the matter, I deleted Home from the XMB, then reinstalled from the XMB. Home works for me again, and I got to choose the 12mb cache.

So your extras are always available on the server side and will just download automatically (the Batcave, for example)? No loss of content I presume?

As soon as I logged in, it prompted me to re-download the Batcave. My DLC content was still all available (paid and free). I had to re-download all the locations as I visited them (mall, plaza, etc), but overall the downloading was faster than before.

Seems like we did not actually get the in-game camera that was promised. WTF.

I read the fine print on the PlayStation Blog and they mentioned that the camera was coming, not released yet. I was disappointed but hey once they get it in I think we'll be getting even funnier travelogues on your site (and heck this one for that matter).

Call me when it gets out of beta, and they put the fun into it. Then I will come back for a visit.
