So, um, Home might be broken
Not that you’re trying, but you may not be able to get PlayStation Home to load at the moment.
Ever since this week’s update to v1.3, the PlayStation forums have been packed with complaints of Home not loading. You can install the 1.3 update, but when you try to load Home after that, it may hang somewhere on the loading screen. For me, it stops on “initializing.” The entire PS3 then goes unresponsive and the only way out is to do a hard reset.
If you believe the general consensus, the issue is somehow related to where your avatar was last saved. If you ended your previous Home session in a personal space (like the Harbour apartment or the Batcave Outpost), that will trigger the failure to load.
Some forum members – and I am not endorsing this plan of action – suggest that you can delete and re-install Home to “fix” the problem. But plenty of posts say this did not fix it. Other members started deleting specific save files related to personal spaces.
I think the cautious way to proceed is to just not go into Home until Sony comes clean on this and delivers 1.3.1.
