Timegate/Southpeak Look to Reviewers for Section 8 Assistance

When any of us writers at Aeropause get a letter from a developer or a publisher after a review, it normally comes down to them either completely dismissing what you wrote, getting hit with the gasface (blacklisted) or completely felating you for loving their game. Rarely do we ever hear something constructive that comes from our review.
So imagine my surprise when I had not only an email from our Southpeak PR rep, but also, the producer of Timegate Studios, about our Section 8 review. When I saw the two names, I was running about the Los Angeles basis, so I only got the names off of my Blackberry, but I knew it was not going to be good. When I finally got to read them, I was ready for the ripfest, but instead, I received a note from our Southpeak rep that zeroed in on my complaints about the multiplayer not working correctly. They did not take it negatively, but instead send it over to the producer to get more feedback from me so they could look into the issue.
Robert Siwiak, lead producer on Section 8 over at Timegate Studios, followed up with an extremely detailed questionaire, asking for all kinds of intricate data from my playtest. I was really amazed that they took the review to heart and decided not to rail us, but to get all the information they could on the issues the reviewers were having and finding ways to fix the problem before the game became a ghosttown.
And it was not just Aeropause that received the email. It looks like several other community sites were emailed when they mentioned the bugs encountered in multiplayer. It was completely different for myself, and Aeropause to get such a response to a review. If only more developers like Robert Siwiak and Timegate Studios would ask for input when a review really dings a component of a game, they might learn to develop better titles for release.

I played the demo for quite a while before realizing Section 8 was nothing special. It felt really generic.
That is probably the best possible outcome from a review, really, and makes me more interested in other things this team has worked on. The developer coming directly to you with a notepad and saying “Please tell me more.” is nothing short of amazing.
