Review: Dragon Ball Z – Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3)

October 28, 2011 – 12:44 pm |

I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

The next day you will exercise is October 4

wiifitplusboxWii Fit Plus has a date and a price: October 4 in North America and only $20 for the stand-alone game disc. A Wii Fit Plus bundle with the disc and Balance Board will retail for $100. While the $100 is more than the original Wii Fit+Board pack, the $20 price on Plus itself is very, very nice. This strikes me as a return to the more benevolent Nintendo that fielded Endless Ocean for $30, rather than last fall’s greedy Nintendo who pushed Wii Music for $50.

Wii Fit Plus remixes the original exercise content with new activities (“hilarious chicken-suited characters”) and the ability to create custom workouts. And you can weigh your cat. I know I have paid a lot more than $20 to get my cats weighed, so Wii Fit Plus will pay for itself inside of a single cat-weigh-in!

Nintendo’s press release (hiding below the jump) also reveals new colors for the DSi: white and pink. And the venerable Wii Remote will be going black, both bundled with a black MotionPlus and sold separately.

At least Wii Fit Plus didn’t bring any kind of weird Balance Board Plus along for the wallet ride.

LAS VEGAS, Aug. 31, 2009 – Nintendo today announced that the new Wii Fit™ Plus game will launch in North America on Oct. 4, and also revealed new colors for its popular Nintendo DSi™ system and for the revolutionary Wii Remote™ and Nunchuk™ controllers and Wii MotionPlus™ accessory. Starting Sept. 13, Nintendo DSi will be available in White and Pink, joining the Blue and Black versions already on the market. Additionally, this holiday season, Nintendo will release a new Black version of the Wii Remote bundled with a Black version of the Wii MotionPlus accessory, which brings precise motion control to games that have been designed for it. A Black version of the Nunchuk controller also will be available for the holidays.

Nintendo of America President & COO Reggie Fils-Aime made these announcements in his keynote address at the 2009 GameStop Manager Conference.

“All of these announcements bring more options and more choices to consumers as our industry heads into its busiest time of the year,” Fils-Aime said. “Each of these products allows consumers to enjoy a more personal gaming experience, no matter how they choose to play.”

Here are the details of today’s announcements:

• Wii Fit Plus: This enhanced version of the top-selling game offers a range of new features, along with new exercises, yoga activities and balance games designed to keep workouts fun. For the first time, users can customize their workouts to target specific areas of their bodies or to fill specific intervals of time. Wii Fit Plus will replace the current Wii Fit™ configuration at retail, and will be bundled with the Wii Balance Board™ accessory at a suggested retail price of $99.99. For people who currently own Wii Fit and want to add the expanded options to their fitness regimen, the Wii Fit Plus disc will be available on its own at a suggested retail price of $19.99.

• White and Pink Nintendo DSi colors: The two new colors give consumers even more options to personalize their experiences. All models of the Nintendo DSi hardware come with two cameras and interactive options to let users create and manipulate pictures or sound in fun and creative ways. All versions of Nintendo DSi are available at a suggested retail price of $169.99.

• Wii Remote and Wii MotionPlus Black bundle: The Black bundle is the first new color for the Wii Remote and Wii MotionPlus.

• Black Nunchuk: The Black Nunchuk will be available as a standalone purchase.

Remember that the Wii™ console features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about Nintendo products, visit www.Nintendo.com.

Do any of you own Wii Fit and actually use it?

  • JoeFourhman says:

Yes, and no. The first Wii Fit was, in my opinion, waaaay too slow… too much clicking to get from one exercise to the next, so you never got a real workout. And most of the minigames were junk.

Wii Fit Plus will hopefully address that with the Custom Workout ability, and by adding in non-sucky minigames.

I think this whole idea of WiiFit Plus is stupid, but at least it's not at full retail price like I thought it would be. Is the Balance Board really worth $80, though?

  • I'm all for it. Go, Nintendo. Sequel up – Wii Fit was enormously popular, and at $20, you're bound to sell a ton this December.

Wii Sports Resort is fun, and if you can Segway around the island…that's awesome. A ground-based version of the plane exploration game in WSR sounds great.

  • JoeFourhman says:

Nope. Nor is a WiFi adapter worth $80, or any controller worth $40-50.

Does this title mean you need a completely new balance board, or is the old one just fine. I am sure my wife will want to get this, and I am a bit confused by it. I assume you just need a Wii Motion Plus, but you know what they say about assuming things.

  • JoeFourhman says:

Same old Balance Board. No need for MotionPlus from what I know.
