Review: Dragon Ball Z – Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3)

October 28, 2011 – 12:44 pm |

I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

iPhone Emulator

Following a false start in the summer, the first emulator finally hits the iPhone.

After originally rejecting the app because it launched “other executive code”, Apple have now given mobile developer Manomio a second chance with their officially-licensed Commodore 64 Emulator app. The change of heart was apparently prompted by the 3.0 iPhone which now permits in-app purchases, therefore keeping the emulator part (and the ROMS) “closed and inaccessible”.

So if you have the sparkly new iPhone and a spare five bucks, classic titles like Dragons Den, Le Mans, Jupiter Lander, Arctic Shipwreck and Jack Attack can be yours! (As I don’t have the sparkly new iPhone (/grumble) myself, drop us a comment and tell us how you get on!)

UPDATE 15.55 BST: Before I posted this, I checked the iTunes store and confirmed that the app was there and available for download. Since then, it’s been pulled – again – because of security concerns. Manomio have published the following on their website:

Unfortunately, Apple has pulled the C64 Application from their store as it was discovered by some users that it was possible to enable the Basic program through the interface. We have now fixed the issue and our application has been re-submitted for approval by Apple.

We thank you all for your support and fingers crossed we hope to launch again over the next few days.

Third time lucky?!

Wait? Wasn't the C64 emulator pulled again because they didn't totally remove the BASIC interpreter still? Or has it been re-re-released?

Either way, that middle image of playing a game looks atrocious. You'd practically need the device a few inches away from your face. Still a good, fun idea.

I checked the iTunes store before adding this post to confirm that it was there. Since then, Apple have pulled it again. I've updated the post now to reflect it!

I almost picked this up a few days ago but I too thought it was too damn small! Let's lose the fricken C64 interface, we get that it's an “emulation theme” already.
