(The opinions stated in this article are the views of Adam Englebright alone and do not constitute in whole or in part the opinions of Aeropause, or the Aeropause staff, excluding Adam Englebright) Ok, you need to understand the depths of loathing in my heart for Flight of the Conchords. I really, really detest them. Why? Because they’re NOT FUNNY! So I wasn’t greatly impressed when I saw on Joystiq today that they’re going to be in Rock Band. The songs of theirs to be added are :
* It’s Business Time
* Albi (the racist dragon)
* Humans are Dead
(If you are a FotC fan, please don’t hesitate to let me know in the comments below – debate develops opinions. Maybe you’ll be able to dissuade me from my hating. And maybe pigs will fly.)

    Come on, SOME of their songs are really funny in a train-wrecky kind of way. Their show in general though didn't really click with me.

    My sister in law though, much younger than me, thinks it's hilarious.

    Obvious troll is obvious. Seriously, if you don't like Flight of the Conchords who cares? I don't read this blog for your opinions on TV shows.

    The only one that made me smile was the Hip-hopapotomus and the Rhymenosaurus, but I think that wouldn't be fun to play in Rock Band. To be honest, my problem is more with their music – the program has it's moments – mostly involving their manager.

    I have never heard these people. I've seen that image a bunch of times, though.

  • Jordan_Snyder

    That's exactly what I was about to say. The Hip-hopopotamus rap is hilarious, but it's not suited for Rock Band at all.

    I've never seen the show, is it worth checking out people?

    This whole “not suited for Rock Band” thing has to stop. I say nearly ANY song can become a playable RB track. We're not hitting actual notes here, people. We're tapping buttons. If the song doesn't have one of the three sacred instruments, you can still come up with a fun rhythm-based highway and play along.

    If there aren't any drums in a song, I don't want to just be hitting the drumset for nothing. There are plenty of songs that aren't suited for Rock Band. How about Sinatra? Or the Star Spangled Banner?

    “Less Talk More Rokk” is electronic boops and buzzes. And it's one of my favorite rhythm game tracks ever.

    Sing it, Fourhman.

  • morphiend

    Umm… ALL of Freezepop is electronic boops and buzzes :P . That's because they play keytars and electronic drums. But there are people filling out all of the instruments, unlike Hip-hopapotamus.

    The shows decently funny if:

    a) you like indie/folk rock music
    b) the Tenacious D shows
    c) also other music that is not necessarily indie/folk but still funny

    I enjoyed the 2 or so that I've seend.

    Yeah, I'm going to have to say that if you don't like “Business Time” you must have never been in a long-term/live-in relationship, or married, or both.

    I played that song for my wife and she about fell off the couch laughing. She wondered if there were more and I told her there was a TV series.

    “That's not part of it, but its still very important.”

    I'm just saying that rhythm games existed before the buttons were tied to an instrument. The idea that only a very specific type of guitar/drum/bass/vocal “rock” song is the only kind of music suitable for inclusion into Rock Band is a shortsighted artificial limitation at best and outright musical snobbery at worst.

    I won't be satisfied until every single song on my iPod is available for Rock Band, from They Might Be Giants to The Wiggles to Daft Punk to Les Miz to Disney soundtracks to Morning Musume to Sophie B Hawkins to Tsukiko Amano to Billy Joel to Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.

    As Elite Beat Agents, PaRappa and Frequency proved, you can feel like you're interacting with a song without necessarily simulating actual notes on specific instruments.

    If you do not enjoy Freezepop, I feel that you must be an evil person. You probably tip cows over as they sleep.

    I love me some Freezepoop… I mean Freezepop. And if you don't get that reference, then you sir are not a True Fan(TM).
