Wii Battery Charger Recall

There are so many obvious hot-gaming jokes on this one – go on, impress me and put your humorous taglines in the comments – that it doesn’t even challenge me. Suffice to say, I’m going to plough on through and get straight to it: Psyclone have recalled their rechargeable battery packs due to overheating.

Distributor Griffin International have put out a recall for 22,000 (or 220,000 – different sources are citing different figures) battery packs sold since January 2008 after reports to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission that the accessory overheats. Along with a fire hazard, the packs are also prone to burning people. The $50 units were sold under the React brand name at Best Buy stores, and as Psyclone Essentials at Target, Toys ‘R’ Us, and Amazon.com.

Psyclone says on its website: “We have chosen to voluntarily recall the Psyclone and React Wii 4-Dock Recharge Station products upon learning of extremely isolated cases of the battery overheating, causing the batteries in the unit to short circuit. Even though the number of cases is very small, we are committed to ensuring our customers are completely satisfied with our products.”

Got one? You’re advised to turn it off immediately (and carefully – let’s not add more casualties to the list) and contact Griffin on 888-344-4702 or productsafety@psyclonegamer.com to arrange the return and free replacement.

It is sad when you are asked to return a product due to a recall and cannot get in touch with the company for information on the replacement of a $50 battery pack. This recall is not being handled very professionally in my opinion.

Tagline: *Ahem* Wii Rod Gets Hot After Penetrating Charge Slot

    Nothing wrong with that, eh?
  • *clap* Nice one. Double points for 'hot' and 'penetrating slot' ... ;)
