Beatles SingStar?

Just when you think your fake Beatles band couldn’t get any better – or that anything can top the announcement of the Take That SingStar title (just me excited about that? Fine. Be that way) – we’re getting rumours of a Beatles SingStar edition.

Details are scant, but MCV report that sources at GamesCom ’09 have confirmed the instrument-free, PS3 exclusive will hit the shelves just days after the hotly-anticipated Beatles Rock Band release. Just like it’s RockBand cousin, the game’s published by MTV and distributed by Electronic Arts.

We’ll keep you posted as and when new information drips out, confirming or denying this. In the meantime, let’s talk – will this affect what you buy? Which do you plan on getting – Rock Band, SingStar, both or neither?

I have to admit that if the two were coming out side by side, I might go with Singstar over Rock Band. That said, I will probably end up with both if this comes to fruition.

And vikki, if you have a PS3, you have to hit me up with a friends request. I play Singstar routinely to the point I have imported Singstar titles from the UK to play, instead of waiting for six months to get the US release, which comes with less cool songs.

If this is true, doesn't it sort of put the lie to all the Harmonix PR about Beatles Rock Band being such a unique and important and distinctive vision of the band? Will this be a wholly separate SingStar island, incompatible with other SingStar editions, like we're continually being told about Beatles Rock Band?

If the Beatles catalog (and video clips, I'm assuming) can be turned into an artist-specific SingStar title, then I see no reason why we won't eventually get a $5 key to transfer our Beatles Rock Band songs and DLC into the core Rock Band game.

I was pondering over this as well, but then I remembered the other instruments as well as DLC. DLC wins.
