Sony upgrading online trophy viewer; Portable ID will include trophy stats

Submitted by on August 13, 2009 – 8:15 am4 Comments

Funny story. I mention in a post that Sony’s Portable ID embeddable HTML badge is lacking and I get lit up like the first Stormtrooper through the door. And now yesterday Sony America announced that, what do you know, this week they plan to upgrade the Portable ID so that it contains trophy information… just like what Sony Europe has had forever. The Portable ID is an image that you can stick on your personal webpage or on any forum that allows HTML code. Prior to this update, the PID for American accounts has been utterly devoid of pertinent PS3 gaming information.

Sony is also enhancing how you can view your trophies online via the us.playstation.com website. This video shows how it works. It is certainly nothing visually spectacular, just some additional sorting and comparison options.

So can all the fanboys stop pretending that A) Online trophy badges are so stupid that you’d have to be a Microsoft shill of the worst kind to want them, and B) That it is perfectly acceptable in perpetuity to expect American users to create accounts on the Sony Europe or Japan websites to access this kind of functionality?

I'm looking forward to this update. Really with all that data behind it I'm surprised the comparison features took so long.

The card doesn't look all that hot, but hey, it's a big improvement to be official.

I have come to realize that the writer of this article is such a fanboy for Sony signature cards. Jeez, we get it already, you lovezorz your sig card. Get over it already. You could have totally had this years ago, but you are too uptight about having more than one signon on your PS3. You are the suckzorz, you fanboy! :p
