Pepsi Rock Band caps back on winning streak
Some big excitement with the Pepsi Rock Band promotion today. First, a long-awaited song update went through, adding nearly 50 new DLC songs to the redemption list. So if you were waiting for Weezer’s “Sweater Song” or Blind Melon’s “No Rain”, as I was, get to it.
But even better news is that fans are reporting that the caps are all coming up winners again. If you have not been in on this gig yet, the way it works is you enter a code, then “gamble” the code on winning something. Winning a free DLC song is your best chance… but if you want to risk a shot at a Rock Band 2 bundle or a trip to Las Vegas, you can. Prior to July 27, every single code I gambled on DLC came up a winner. In the weeks since, it’s been disappointingly scattershot, with me sometimes going as many as six to eight losses in a row before winning a DLC song. But tonight I played a dozen codes and won on all twelve. So if you have codes to play, I’d say go do it NOW. Before the pendulum rocks back to crapitude. Sort of a coincidence that the Cap Fail era went for exactly a month, eh?
Here’s a few other words of advice, specifically for PS3 and Wii rockers…
PS3: Since the PlayStation Store has not yet received the Thursday store update (WTF, it’s almost midnight EST?!?!), some songs that are up on the Pepsi list technically do not yet exist to be downloaded. So your redemption code will throw an error. Among the songs affected by this issue are “Don’t Stop” by Fleetwood Mac and “I Won’t Back Down” by Tom Petty. I would expect that the code(s) will work fine once Sony gets around to posting this week’s update.
Wii: Now that everybody knows about the Wii loophole – wherein Pepsi has been handing out 200 Nintendo Point gift cards instead of actual Rock Band songs – just about every week the Pepsi website “runs out” of Wii tokens. They restock in a couple days, but there is no telling exactly when that happens. So if you plan on turning your DLC winners into 200-point gift cards, you’re going to have to keep checking every day to see when the Wii tokens are back in abundance.
The Pepsi contest is slated to run until September 13… which is, of course, only a few days after Beatles: Rock Band is released. I wonder if Pepsi plans on adding Beatles DLC to the redemption list.
