BBC “Beatles Week” promotes, trumps Beatles: Rock Band
September 5 will kick off “Beatles Week” on BBC2 and BBC4, featuring documentaries and specials about the band, not entirely un-coincidentally timed with the launch of The Beatles: Rock Band on September 9. However, one of the game’s most-mentioned features – the “unheard studio banter” – may actually be trumped by the Beeb’s specials.
The week will open with “The Beatles On Record,” a history of the band in the studio featuring more than 60 songs, rare footage and photographs from the group’s archives and never-before-heard fragments of chat.
The article does not mention if these “unheard [Abbey Road] out-takes of conversation” will be the same as the audio anticipated to debut in the game. In theory, somewhere there’s hours of material of John telling Ringo to go pick up the chips. But you’d have to figure that once they received permission to release these cuts, somebody would want to leverage them is as much Beatlemania 2009 as possible. Regardless, having the BBC parrot one of the BRB’s signature bullet points kinda makes the game just a teency bit less special.
