A Family-Friendly Brutal Legend?

Submitted by Paul Munn on August 5, 2009 – 9:09 amView Comments

brutal_legendIt may be bouncing around various court cases right now but Tim Schaefer’s Brutal Legend is still keeping gamers’ interest. It just went up a notch in my book of upcoming releases to check out, too, because they’re apparently going to add a content filter to the game. The optional filters come in two flavors, sight and sound.

The game can stick a Parental Advisory logo over profane visuals in the game, and it will also let you bleep out profanity. In the interview which mentions this over at Planet Xbox 360, Schaefer notes that your imagination runs away with you when you hear so much bleeping going on.

“The jokes are funnier. So when you hear “You Beeeeep”, in some ways it makes a better joke. So you can turn it on in the game, and it says if you think it’s funnier, than you can keep it in the game. And it is actually in some ways funnier.”

I would love to have more and more games have this option built-in, and even have movies with this feature as well. Perhaps Blu-ray can go down this road someday, allowing you to actively filter out profanity for those younger audiences who can handle some of the content of a feature film but not all of it.
