Weekend Gaming Score: I almost bought this game
The annual flea market in my town happened today, or perhaps I happened to the flea market. There were so many great things to look at and buy that I found myself getting very picky about what I was grabbing. I passed up another $15 Gamecube because it didn’t look great and only came with a third party controller. There were hundreds of video games, mostly of the worthless variety. One table had a number of reasonably valuable video games, but they were priced a bit high for a flea market, especially considering the poor condition they were in.
What I did come away with was a trio of games, one of which I considered buying at launch but couldn’t stomach the price. First was Wario World for Gamecube. I remember when this Treasure-developed platformer first appeared that I desperately wanted to play it. It was very late in the Gamecube’s life and the game felt very expensive at $50. For $5 in perfect condition, it’s a deal. The other two games are brand new, still in their factory seal: Art of Fighting Anthology and The King of Fighters XI, both for PS2, also $5 each. A friend of mine who’s a major fighting game fanatic is getting those, as my instinctive desire to play fighting games generally tends to quickly turn to regret over buying them. Case in point is the slick new fighter BlazBlue, which I have to keep reminding myself I will be terrible at.
Oh, and one more thing. I grabbed a mint complete copy of Space Channel 5 for Dreamcast for a buck. This game features Michael Jackson, if I remember correctly. I wonder if it’s worth something.
Aside from this handful of games, I came home with a tall stack of CDs, both new and used. This flea market had almost as many CDs as it had mud. And it was very muddy.
How was your shopping this weekend?

Actually, Wario World was fairly early in the GameCube lifespan (June 2003)… I distinctly recall it being the first Nintendo-character Cube game I did not buy. It was slammed for being too short.
You know what, you're right. Not sure why I thought that was late. That would have made it just about contemporary with Wind Waker. So far I'm finding the game pretty addictive. It's kind a kind of speedy brawler appeal.
