Snuggle Up With Unreal Tournament III

ut3_whiteblotchy_330pxA new interview with Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney noted that while they consider Unreal Tournament “certainly a major long-term priority” there are no plans to make another one for “several years”. So go out and pick up a copy of the game and snuggle up with it kids because while some think the day of the arena shooter has passed, I think it easily beats out many other shooters and is just what the doctor ordered from time to time.

The game is cheap on all platforms, the add-on content of the first map pack and the Titan Pack bursting with professional-grade maps and the new game modes, and the addition of split screen and other features bringing the PS3 version to parity with the Xbox 360 version all make for a great package. Forget about those weakling shooters that give you ooh, ahh, 8 maps to play on. The Around The World trophy for this game alone rewards you for playing 40 individual maps across the various game modes. Forty, that’s four with a zero after it folks. Throw in that the game looks gorgeous and has excellent online play and you really can’t go wrong adding it to your collection.

And of course the PC version and PS3 version of the game supports user-made levels and mutators. The PC version ships with the toolset to make the mods and convert them over for PS3 usage. The PS3 version’s mod support has been beefed up quite a bit with a new, much easier user interface as well. It’s a great shooter at a great price. Happy fragging!
