Review: Dragon Ball Z – Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3)

October 28, 2011 – 12:44 pm |

I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

PSN puts seven games on a weeklong discount

summer09saleThey really do make it difficult to feel like buying these things at regular price, when you KNOW a seasonal sale will come around eventually.

Today’s PlayStation Store update arrived with the ho-hum Ghostbusters LBP costume pack, a demo for Trash Panic (which is apparently stupid hard), the billionth port of Namco Museum (no Mappy), another 3 to 1 ratio for Rock Band to Guitar Hero tracks (GH, give up already)… and seven games with slashed prices for one week only. Here’s the sale:

- WipEout HD (was $19.99, now $14.99!)
- Flock! (was $14.99, now $7.49!)
- Savage Moon (was $9.99, now $4.99!)
- Crash Commando (was $9.99, $4.99!)
- PixelJunk Eden (was $9.99, now $4.99!)
- Brain Challenge (was $9.99, now $4.99!)
- 3 on 3 NHL Arcade (was $9.99, now $4.99!)

I’m checking out the Savage Moon demo right now. Although the ugly-stepsister-to-Starcraft vibe does nothing for me, I’d easily go $5 for another competent tower defender. With Trophies.

Any of those trip your trigger? Any recommendations from the readership? Anybody think Flock working in groaners like “Motherflocker” is funny?

WipEout HD has always looked really sexy to me, but I'm saving up my money right now.

  • I would love to buy wipeout but i just bought burnout the ultmate box so im saving some money at the moment. Maybe when they (if they ever do) come out with a bundle with the soon to come out Fury DLC Ill buy it. Wipeout looks awesome.

Picked up Crash Commando and spent about an hour playing it with James last night. It's very fun!

I have played plenty of Burnout and Wipeout. Obviously completely different games. Burnout is much easier to control your car, but Wipeout is rewarding when you memorize the intricacies of each track. Wipeout is about to get expanded with more tracks and racers, so I would highly recommend picking it up for the reduced price (I'm not sure if the expansion is pay content or free; probably pay).

Wipeout HD also displays 60 FPS at 1080P, so X-Box can suck that!

$5 for most of those games is entirely worth it; I'll pick up Brain Challenge so I have a casual game for my PS3 (to earn some sparkley things).

I almost grabbed Crash Commando last night. I played the demo a few weeks back and liked it. I was just worried that if I can't find multiplayer buddies that it would awash.

I did grab Eden though, which I've been waiting on for almost a year. Yippee!

Wipeout HD update: heck yes it is coming out next week for $10. Doubling the tracks and adding race types. I haven't played in a long time, so I might pick up that expansion to get back into it (even though I've lost all the muscle memory….).

The games that I would buy from this deal would be Wipeout HD and Crash Commando. I would possibly look into Savage Moon, too. I'm a little tight on cash though, and with all the Burnout and Warhawk expansions I still haven't bought yet I don't think I'll end up getting any of them.
