Ode to Joy, Lucasarts Classics Come to Steam

    By Joe Haygood | July 8, 2009

For years, I have expressed how great the LucasArts graphic adventure games were to friends and family.  But for so long, it has been difficult to find versions of the games to play in a modern computer.  Sure, there are emulators, and even the new SCUMM engine that can run these games, but it just does not feel the same.  And I am scared to death to pull out my 3 1/2″ or 5 1/4″ floppies and try to install the game on my PC, as to ruin the disks.

But no more waiting needs to be had, as Steam will have its first round of classic LucasArts titles hitting the marketplace today sometime.  Some of the older titles that will be available today include Speilberg’s first gaming attempt, The Dig, Loom, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and more.

There are also some more recent titles, like Star Wars Battlefront II and Republic Commando, but most of those are probably owned by many PC gamers, but the older classic titles have never been played by recent audiences.  I wonder if they will marvel at the stories, or vomit from the old school graphics.  In the end, all I care about is knowing I can play Loom again.
