Is anybody else sick of the way the big review sites scam search engines?

I am so over this. I try to Google some info on Ant Nation, due on WiiWare this week, and all I get is the usual search engine scam tricks utilized by the Big Boys for years. But it doesn’t matter what you search, you get the same generic, templated results.

Sure, Gamespy, I bet you have all the latest cheats for freakin’ Ant Nation. Nice, IGN, no kidding you have Alerts and Wishlists and Collections. How about an Ant Nation review? Everyone claims to be the best, have the essentials, the latest, your complete resource. Which is another way of saying absolutely nothing. How about actually letting some of that incredible content shine through to the search results?

I understand why they do this – it’s no doubt a linchpin in keeping them on top of search results and incoming pageviews – but as a user it is damned irritating to know that whatever game I Google, I’m going to get nothing but an empty, information-less link that may or may not actually be indicative of the content on the other side.

Hey, buddy, I love IGN and 1UP. Also, Ant… Nation… Ant Nation? Really? Fourhman, you always crack me up with your Nintendosity.

I'm fine with the big boy sites, just continually disappointed that I can't get the search results I'm looking for. Those crappy templated results usually indicate a review even if no such review exists.

And hey, I'd love to know if Ant Nation is good or not, but having such a miserable time quickly locating a review means I'm still in the dark.

Why isn't this a Sad Chao post?

I concur with the main point. If I want a review site's take on the game, let me type the site's name in with my Google search. Is there any chance Bing! is better?

Try going to Game Rankings and search for the game. Chances are many sites haven't reviewed it yet.

The generated page responses is only one step above the generated pages that are nothing more than ad's and link collections to completely unrelated topics, a.k.a. the spam-sites.

    Bing! First ever decision engine!

    >_>

It is pretty cruddy that they're baiting search engines this way.

Incidentally, this very article now shows up on Google's first page of results for “Ant Nation review.”

So, sorry for anybody coming here looking for an Ant Nation review.

    IRONY.

For me, aeropause doesn't even show up on the first page when I search that.

  • Jordan_Snyder

I didn't find it until the fourth page.
