Don’t forget: another week to get the free Dolphin Model in Animal Crossing: City Folk

Although it is sort of lame. Watch and see in this annotated, poorly framed video:

Back in Wild World, there was a Pikmin planter box that held three pikmin buds… they made happy little sounds when you clicked on them. So I was kinda hoping that Olimar’s spaceship would do something cool.

Note that Nintendo is claiming that this prize was released to celebrate the anniversary of the moon landing, not to promote a Pikmin 2 re-release as I expected. You have until August 3 to fire up your WiiConnect24-enabled system and claim the Dolphin Model. Like most of the DLC gifts, once you receive it, you can re-buy it from Nook as many times as you like.

I don’t have any solid sourcing on this, but many AC forums claim that Nintendo alloted 256 slots for actual, honest-to-goodness DLC in Animal Crossing: City Folk. Like, items that do not exist on-disc. We have no way of knowing if the Dolphin Model, Hot Dog Hat and other “DLC” are using those slots, or if they are simply hidden in the game and being unlocked one at a time. Either way, it’s a pretty weak stab at the kind of regularly invigorating DLC that you get with the likes of Rock Band or LittleBigPlanet.

In the past, giveaways have been items that were built in and just being unlocked, if I recall. I mean in the Gamecube game, of course. Now if only Nintendo would start giving away NES games. Of course, then people would complain they couldn't play them from the Wii Menu...
  • Yeah, Wild World too, I believe. But some folks swear Nintendo left a genuine DLC door open with City Folk. Of course, you'd never get Nintendo to admit as much. So secretive.
  • Although now that I think about it, Wild World did have that cool Toys R Us promotion where you linked up to a house DS and got a new Chimpanzee villager plus some new rare items. Maybe that was actual DLC, because it did take a bit for the Chimp connection to finish "downloading."

Haha, Joe's video was used on GoNintendo and Kombo. Don't you feel special?
  • Fourhman, your video was great. Love the use of emotions and all that extra show.
