Club Nintendo rewards revealed: Mario hat, 2010 calendar and downloadable mini-Punch-Out

doclouisStalwart Nintendo fans received a pleasant email this morning: a rundown of the promised free rewards for achieving Gold or Platinum Elite status.

If you made Gold, you get a 2010 calendar. Enjoy. I’m not being too snarky because I’ve seen some of the Japanese Nintendo calendars and they were pretty cool.

Platinum members can choose from either a Mario Hat (one size fits most; may be too large for small children) or a unique one-on-one version of Wii Punch-Out featuring you vs. Doc Louis. Not sure how I feel about an entire game devoted to me beating on a single fat guy, but I’ll take it. Also, Nintendo’s email is quick to point out that “Doc Louis’s Punch-Out” will only be available as part of this program. Whereas the hat carries no such exclusivity asterisk.

I’ll likely go for the mini-Punch-Out. Although chiefly, this has me thinking about how I would have been much more into a Punch-Out purchase if the entire bloody game was a download, with the option for cheap DLC add-on characters. Maybe next gen! Nintendo vows to deliver all rewards by November 1, 2009.

Yes, I know this brings us to three Nintendo-related articles in a row. So I guess we’re a Nintendo-focused website now.

Neat prizes. I'd go with the Punch-Out!! game as well. I've always wanted to fight Doc ever since he made me wear that pink jumpsuit.

Maybe I'd go for a Luigi hat.
