Review: Dragon Ball Z – Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3)

October 28, 2011 – 12:44 pm |

I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

Yep, Nintendo is still making Mario Kart DS commercials

Submitted by on June 28, 2009 – 10:07 pm7 Comments

These new DS spots began running about a week ago, but I did not notice them until tonight. When the Mario Kart DS commercial appeared, I quite literally threw a pillow at the TV and screamed “THAT GAME CAME OUT FOUR YEARS AGO.”*

The Joystiq video embedded above shows two new spots… Brain Age (the first one!!!) on DS and Mario Kart DS using the DSi. Both feature Garrett Morris, one of the stars of the legendary first years of Saturday Night Live. To me, he’ll always be the guy who sang “I’m Gonna Get Me a Shotgun and Kill All the Whiteys I See,” but his role here is pretty good too.

What other games from 2005 deserve TV airtime today? Psychonauts? Killer 7? Perfect Dark Zero? The first Guitar Hero? I get that some key DS games have exceptionally long tails, but this is ridiculous.

*I did not actually throw a pillow.

You non-pillow throwing liar! But you know what, I'm not surprised at all that they're still marketing a four-year-old game. The DS is still usually in first or second place when the NPD numbers roll in, and Mario Kart still hangs in the top ten software list. If hundreds of thousands of new DS owners appear each month, that's hundreds of thousands of new potential Mario Kart owners. To knowledgeable and handsome gamers like us, Mario Kart DS is old news. But for all those old fogies who are just now discovering the DS, Mario Kart is the new and happenin' trend, kind of like when all the old people invaded Facebook. “Hey, my teenage children are on here. I bet they'd love it if I joined too!” Nope. You'll just kill it. So, what was I talking about? Right, Mario Kart DS. Nintendo is rich out the ass.

I remember chillin with my friend when that new commercial came on, and my non gamer friend said “Didn't that game come out like three years ago?” Thats when you know that game needs no more advertising.

You probably shouldn't have used the word “literally” then.

    Agreed. It was poetic license.

I saw this commercial and was thinking about posting something in the forums, but I forgot. This is pretty pathetic seeing as they have plenty of other games to market. Fail

When I saw the commercial, I was left speechless. I thought to myself , 4 F***** YEARS ALREADY!!
And I don't cuss too often.

Is Nintendo trying to avoid a Mario Kart DS 2 or Mario Kart DSi? Because, I doubt that their plan will work.
