Nintendo adds E3 2009 movies to Wii’s Nintendo Channel
In an uncharacteristically generous and timely move, Nintendo has updated the Wii’s Nintendo Channel with a ton of E3 2009 movies. (Those of you with computers may also find them most of them here.) All the biggies from today’s conference are there. So fire up your Wii for an easy selection of what’s coming up from Nintendo. Here’s the few I sampled and my quick reactions. Note that I did not see the actual press conference, so I may be lacking some context on some of these.
Metroid: Other M (Wii): Final title? Can’t believe we’re getting another Metroid so soon after nobody bought Metroid Prime 3. Definitely looks like a Team Ninja production though, doesn’t it!
New Super Mario Bros Wii (Wii): Urm. I love in-home multiplayer, but I’m not entirely interested in going back to the side-scrolling well for it (especially since there’s no graphical hook to make it more interesting, as they did with Paper Mario or Four Swords). I like how you can carry each other. Betcha Peach gets announced as a fourth character in some pre-planned surprise reveal.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii): Wow, a pure numbered Mario sequel! As I have mentioned ad nauseum, I ended up lukewarm on Galaxy 1… but seeing YOSHI show up in this trailer has piqued my interest again. Here’s hoping there’s some additional tweaks. Reggie says we’re not getting it this year anyway.
Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box (DS): This trailer gave me chills, no foolin’. Will buy.
Wii Sports Resort (Wii): This trailer probably cost more to produce than the game itself.
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (DS): One of my concerns for this one was that it would not have enough Disney in it. Looks like I don’t have to worry.
Endless Ocean 2 (Wii): This time, fish may bite you! Please announce a cheap price point.
Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story (DS): Another cute-looking installment. I’m still ticked that I never got around to Partners in Time and now you can’t find it anywhere.
Wii Fit Plus (Wii): Those punks! They may have actually fixed Wii Fit! I see playlists and some minigames that do not immediately come off as stupid. Chicken Miis! And you can play with your dog!
Sin and Punishment 2 (Wii): The Remote+Nunchuk may very well be the control scheme that this game has been waiting for. Thus far, looks like the world’s best light gun game.
Monado: Beginning of the World (Wii): Is this a new first party IP? Looks kind of bland. Nintendo’s website rather hilariously has NOTHING about it.
PictureBook Games: Pop-Up Pursuit (WiiWare): I’m kind of a sucker for card/board games in video game form, and I dig the pop-up book art.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! (DS): I liked the first game well enough but skipped the second one. This third installment wants to make a big deal about being able to design your own levels… wasn’t that initially promised for the first one, in some kind of crazy theoretical GBA/Cube connectivity mashup?
Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles (Wii): Since RE2 was my first Resident Evil game, I always prefer the Leon/Claire era to the Chris/Jill adventures. Nice trailer… how much of that was cutscene?
You, Me & the Cubes (WiiWare): Exceptionally creepy trailer for a puzzle game.
I know we didn’t get to cover Nintendo’s conference live today, but that doesn’t mean you guys don’t have Nintendopinions, right?
