Holy Hell, Retro’s position as Metroid dev handed to Team Ninja

When word of the clumsily named Metroid: Other M reached me today, I was caught off guard for a number of reasons, not the least of which would be the Team Ninja logo on the beginning of the trailer. I’m a fan of Team Ninja’s work, and I’ve pointed out on several occasions that Ninja Gaiden is the only game on the original Xbox I wanted to play. This trailer raises a lot of excitement, but also a lot of questions, not the least of which is, “what is Retro Studios working on, then?” Criticisms of the Ninja Gaiden games involving difficulty level and camera problems are also on that list of concerns.

Nintendo’s 2009 E3 showings are nothing short of amazing this year, especially when shown against last year’s.

Considering the sales decline of the Metroid franchise, I am fairly shocked that Nintendo would field another one!

When the trailer started, I figured it was a new (good) Starfox. Nice trailer though!

Yeah, on subsequent views I noticed Samus' old CO Adam near the beginning calling her “Lady.” Nice touch. Must be a prequel.

I've never been a huge fan of the Metroid series, but I appreciate the fact that Nintendo went to the efforts of teaming up with Team Ninja to produce a more mature themed Metroid game. Fourhman, this would be a hardcore game. A game that is designed specifically with the dedicated, gamer audience in mind.

This looks like it could be the best Metroid made.

And I sure as heck hope Retro Studios is working no Star Fox. Someone has to be, right?

When the trailer started, I thought the same thing. being a huge Star Fox fan, I was disappointed at first, but the trailer more than made me happy in the end.
