Four man Mario coming as Nintendo’s big holiday title

By all accounts, New Super Mario Bros Wii will be Nintendo’s big holiday 2009 game… as most of the first party games shown at E3 2009 are currently listed as 2010 or TBD.

Here’s Nintendo’s homegrown E3 lineup release schedule (Wii, DS, WiiWare, DSiWare) as revealed thus far. If anybody has any requests for video or screens on any of these that have not already been posted, let us know in comments and we’ll see what we can do. Don’t say Style Savvy.

I’m so ticked that WarioWare D.I.Y. is TBD! Hurry up already! Kind of interesting that D.I.Y. is listed as a DS game and Minis March Again is a DSiWare game, eh? I would have thought the reverse.

I think 2010 will definitely be the year for Nintendo's first-party games. 2009 might be pretty good if The Conduit and Red Steel 2 deliver on their promises. New Super Mario Bros. Wii wasn't a fantastic announcement, though. I think most people are generally geared towards the “this should be a DS or WiiWare game” opinion. 2010, however, looks to have some real crowd-pleasers in it, though. While Sin and Punishment 2 and Metroid: Other M don't necessarily appeal to me, they should be a big hit with the hardcore and niche gamers. For me, it's all about Super Mario Galaxy 2. I wouldn't even care if it was Galaxy 1.5, I'd still be psyched about it. Nintendo's conference didn't quite match up to the other companies, but it was still very nice, and much better than last years, to say the least.

Wow a 4-player HD 2d platformer that looks 3d and includes online drop-in and drop-out play with full level building capabilities? That's awesome!

Oh wait, that's LittleBigPlanet. This doesn't have online play, HD, or level building.

For a second I thought this was Facebook and pressed the “Like” button. That's a very good point Paul. I think the NSMB franchise should stay on DS or at least WiIWare.

Alas, in a week, it will handily outdistance LBP's lifetime sales.

Seriously. The biggest thing NSMBWii has going for it is the nostalgia. But I'll reserve purchase judgment until more gameplay is revealed. I always seem to have lunkheads around who see the original NES SMB in my Wii menu and want to play that instead of whatever new fancy game I just bought, so I could see this one ending up in my lap, even if classic Mario platforming isn't necessarily my bag.
