I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

Bring On Natal, Just Get a Better Name!

Submitted by on June 1, 2009 – 9:30 pm7 Comments

natalEven if Microsoft decided not to show of Project Natal, they still would have had a really good E3 showing. They had plenty of excusive and third party games to make all us Xbox gamers happy. They even threw in a brand new Halo game for god’s sake. They could have stopped right there, but no! They decided to take the Wii on in a big way with Project Natal.

When I heard the rumors that Microsoft was going to come out with a motion sensing controller I really though that they would just copy the Wiimote and throw in a few new features, and say look what we made!  They probably could have done that and it might have been a success, but now we know their plans are much more ambitious. Project Natal looks like something that could trump the Wii in terms of casual gaming, while at the same time it has huge potential for hardcore games as well, something yet to show itself on the Wii. That kind of potential can be a game changer if it is done right.

Just remember that time when you were showing a friend or your family how cool the Wii works, well imagine how amazing Natal could be if it pans out as well as the Wii did. They are trying to make the 360 the cool device that everyone will want. Hopefully we will see it this holiday season, do note that Natal is Portuguese for Christmas, could that be a big hint from Microsoft? Let’s hope so!

Its not like the Wii is going to disappear anytime soon, but if Microsoft pulls out some quality games for this thing when it launches, they could see a huge rise in sales and market share. Please god let the Developers use common sense and make some great Natal based games!

We all know they will not call it Natal forever, so I want to hear our readers ideas for a new name for the device, and also let us know what you think of it.

I don't think it will be this Christmas, as they seemed to say it was just recently being given to third parties to work with. The Lionhead stuff was creepy and amazing at the same time. When she scanned the picture in and it almost immediately showed up in the boy's hands was amazing. The painting stuff was neat.

But it was the simple stuff that I found to be pretty cool. visually recognizing my face and signing me in automatically was impressive. as was the dashboard navigation. I just hope we get chance to choose to control with a controller or a camera.

We were laughing when we saw then demo a skateboard game with the camera, needing no piece of plastic for a controller, and we thought “Tony Hawk must be really pissed right about now”.

I believe whenever G4 interviewed Kudo after the conference he said it would definitely not be out in 2009, so I think we can rule out a Christmas release (for 2009 at least). I really hope they can do more Milo-esque projects because that was the high point of the Natal presentation.

  • Even if it does not pan out with games the way they want it to, I would still love to have the other cool navigation and speech features. I wonder how much this thing is gonna cost?

Who wants to place bets now that this thing goes sour, like the regular Xbox cam and now we'll be privy to FULL SEX in-game actions, in Uno. :P

my favorite part in this part of the conference was when i think it was kudo who said this isint going to be another system where you can sit on your couch with pre-rendered motion controls.and the entire audience was like ooo.
