Mein leben! Wolf3D invades PSN/XBLA

Chomping at the heels of an upcoming sequel, the game responsible for causing the FPS genre to explode Wolfenstein 3D is officially making its swastika-laden appearance on the PSN and XBLA, starting June 4, 2009. It’s been ported to every other platform over the years, so why not.
Why not? Because as much fun as it was 17 years ago when it originally released for the PC, I don’t think it held up well to the test of time. Luckily, Activision/id realized this and have added the incentive of gaining “instant upgrades” for when you finally play the latest iteration: Wolfenstein, which is due out Aug 4, 2009. Even with this ‘bonus’, I would not put this at much more than a $3 value. Since no pricing information has been announced yet, we’ll have to see what value has been placed on it. An inquiry has been placed to Activision about this, so we’ll keep you updated. I’d love to have seen Return to Castle Wolfenstein, or even a free version of Enemy Territory, make an appearance, but we’ll have to settle with this. Oh, and it’s Wolf3D and its expansion, the Nocturnal Missions, and does not include the prequel, Spear of Destiny. Full press release after the jump.
