Infamous, er inFAMOUS on Sears Shelves Early

Submitted by on May 24, 2009 – 2:33 pm6 Comments

ps3_infamous_hub_logoDuring a rare midday walk through my local northern New Jersey mall I spotted four copies of inFAMOUS on the rack at Sears. The high-scoring PS3 exclusive already has a great demo on the PlayStation Store and its street date is this Tuesday. It took quite a bit of willpower not to buy it on the spot — I’m making a pact to run through one more game in my backlog before buying it, or it goes on sale, whichever comes first — so I don’t quite know if they’d stop the sale at the register or not, but it was there in the plastic security shell alongside the other PS3 games so why not.

Also during my walk through the local GameStop, I stopped a little boy who must have been 5 at most from trying to get his parents to buy him TimeShift. It’s such an awful game that I couldn’t let it stand. Ok, ok, so I stopped and explained the ESRB ratings to his mom and dad and pointed out helpfully that TimeShift was rated M, the Transformers game dad had in hand was rated T for Violence, and picked up a random sportsball game with an E rating to give him some context. Truth be told the little guy wasn’t trying to pull one over on his parents — I don’t think he could even really read the boxes — but his parents needed to know. They thanked me, and I slunk out of the store before the hired help could mutter their thanks.

Hope everyone’s having a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!

What a good samaritan you are! I thought InFamous was pretty cool, qiute similar to Crackdown in my opinion, only more action?

SEARS would like to request that you properly capitalize their brand name as SEARS. Thank you.

    Heh thanks Joe.

I saw Infamous for sale at Target this afternoon as well, so if you want it a day early your local Target store might have it as well.

I guess I got a different vibe from the demo. I wanted it to get me off of my butt to purchase it, but it did not hold my attention long. It was a longer demo, but it was a difficult demo. I did save the train and the medical crate, but only after quite a few attempts. It also reminded me a bit too much of Escape from New York, with its backstory. I will probably wait for a price drop (does that every happen with PS3 games….Heavenly Sword for $40 STILL).

If you consider price drops to be relative, e.g. $40 is a full third off a $60 game, it's not terrible.

But if you decide to put a dollar value on the game then you might have a long wait.

Heavenly Sword is a rare case — it's clearly a dead end game that will get no sequel and its studio might even be on its way out or headed to other platforms. I'm reminded of the LucasArts Jedi games on PC. It was really hard to find them cheaply for a long time.

I have learned a lot from your blog. I have been a copywriter and I really loved to see your blog. Well done!
