Afrika is totally Endless Ocean
On PS3. Not underwater. And in HD.
Afrika, one of the early PS3 sizzle reel games, is finally escaping Japan for a North American release sometime this fall. For a game that Sony seemed to flog right and left in the months before the PS3′s launch, it may surprise you to hear that the game will be published in the West by Natsume, not Sony. It’s been a long ride for Afrika, from Sony art game darling to forgotten urban legend. Sony released Afrika in Japan last August.
Our pal Fruit Brute has put in some considerable time with an import of Afrika and really dug it. Although his writeup brings one game immediately to my mind: Nintendo’s much-maligned fish-petter Endless Ocean. You get told what animal you have to find, and then you go find it. Seems like the war between these two games will come down to Potential Stampede vs. Sunken Pirate Ship. Being the sucker for photography-based games that I am, I’ll no doubt be supremely interested in Afrika once we get a solid release date.
