Weekend Gaming Score: Somebody’s been eating my World at War

money-in-hand

With the incredibly beautiful weather we’ve been having this weekend in the American northeast, it was only natural to see an explosion of garage sales. Hunting around today resulted in some great deals, and some surprises.

One garage sale had a short stack of AAA games for very little money, but a closer look at one revealed that some shifting around was in order. Someone was selling complete copies of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: World at War, both for PS3. COD4‘s case was badly damaged, but everything else was fine, but World at War actually had a sizable chunk broken out of the edge of the disc! I almost picked up both (for $10 each) until I spotted the problem. The woman there didn’t have a problem with me cobbling together an excellent copy of Call of Duty 4 using the good box from World at War. I’m glad these boxes are interchangeable.

I got the game home and tested it, and found it working fine. Unfortunately, even at $10, it’s still a dual analog FPS, so it’s up on Goozex as we speak. $10 cost vs. 850 points at Goozex = profit. For a PS3 game, 850 Goozex points is roughly the equivalent of $50.

Also at this garage sale was a complete copy of the somewhat challenging to find PS1 four-disc survival horror game, Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix. I haven’t gotten around to testing the game yet, but it appears to be in excellent shape. At a dollar flat, an excellent deal. Passed up items at this garage sale were an expansion set for Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, and a couple of other PC titles at three dollars each. Resale on these items being tricky with product keys and all, I let them go.

The only other grab I got was a Sega Genesis 2 system with three games and a controller for $5. The woman didn’t seem 100% confident that the system worked, but she also didn’t seem 100% confident that she knew what it was. I haven’t gotten around to test that either, but since I already have a Genesis, I’ll probably just clean it up and resell it if it works perfectly.

What did you find this weekend?

Someone was selling a boxed PS2 Guitar Hero III, with the guitar, for $25. I passed on it as there's too much margin for error there. The game or guitar could be broken, making the set worthless.

Cartridge-only copies of three pretty worthless games. Sonic 2, Road Rash II, and F22 Interceptor.

i want all but f22 no really espically road rash.

You'll find some pretty wicked deals at yard sales, especially for classic, AAA games that people don't know the actual value of. I, for one, don't shop at yard sales because of my phobia of used games (is Fourhman with me again?).
