Sony Was Right: WiiWare Joins XBLA On Amazon

Submitted by Paul Munn on April 22, 2009 – 7:59 amComments

worldofgoo_wiiware_on_amazonIt looks like the first WiiWare title has hit Amazon, just a short while after Xbox Live Arcade titles have also gone on sale on the online megastore. Both of these things have made life a whole lot more convenient for customers and, in the end, proved Sony was right all along.

Making customers buy nutty point cards in stupid amounts that never match up with what games are sold for just gets your customers mad. You know, customers? The ones who you should give a pleasing experience to when they use your online store?

Will more than World of Goo make it up there? I hope so. Consumers will love it.

Will Sony go onto Amazon? Perhaps, but given that they already charge real money to customers and how far into the hole they are this generation I wouldn’t expect them to want to give any of the profits away.

This is very simple: retail stores (online or brick-and-mortar) will be around for a long time because of convenience and security. Video game companies can't do digital content exclusively on their own because they will not be as visible to the average consumer. I'm certain Nintendo will sell many more copies of World of Goo now that it is visible to the Amazon retail customers.

Judging by its placement first when viewing WiiWare sorted by popularity, I'd say World of Goo is already the best selling WiiWare game. It's a great title, and if this makes it more accessible to consumers, then so much the better. The big appeal here is that we can now use our Amazon gift cards and such for WiiWare titles. Combine this with that jar of loose coins and a properly equipped CoinStar machine and you're ready to rock and roll for almost no effort.

this topic i really thought hard about at first sony would have no reason to go with amazon becausee they already charge real money, but if you really think about it they are kinda dumb for not doing it why because there is a whole market of birthdays and holidays that im sure microsoft/nintendo will gladly love to take now.i mean really think about it this means aunts/uncles that might mail you cash or something will now e-mail you a code for this game you want insted.
