Sacred 2, Ascaron 0
This week Sacred 2 went gold for the Xbox 360 and PS3 for a mid-May launch and the PC version was patched up to clean up some significant bugs. The 360 version went out the door first just before Ascaron, its developer, announced it was declaring bankruptcy (or its German equivalent) and was looking to be bought to solve its problems. In case that didn’t shake your faith in their product line they declared the PS3 version was gold just a couple of days later.
I’d been hoping we’d finally get a really good console dungeon crawler out of Ascaron but after reading some reviews of the PC version having graphics performance problems and glitches and bugs requiring restarting the game I’m not terribly confident that their console offerings will be that great. Sure, I can be happy that the PC effectively served as a beta, but we can only hope those fixes made it into the code base for the console versions of the game.
I’ll keep an eye out for it, but I’m not exactly going to be beating the retailer’s door down unless I see a set of strong reviews talking up the multiplayer and a generally stable core game.
