LEGO Castlevania not coming to consoles, handhelds, but it should

Submitted by Stephen Munn on April 1, 2009 – 7:01 pmComments

LEGO CastlevaniaSo, I was thinking for a while about setting up an April Fool’s joke about a LEGO Castlevania game, and here’s how it was going to go: I was going to actually build a full 3D scene involving LEGO bricks and minifigures and everything, it was going to be epic. The only problem is, I have a life. Well, part of one. OK, I just was busy. Playing MadWorld. It’s awesome.

A deal bricked together by Konami and Traveller’s Tales will bring the popular LEGO brand treatment to my favorite video game franchise, Castlevania, this fall. As was done with the two Star Wars trilogies,  LEGO Castlevania will apparently be a walk through the first three Castlevania games, in their classic side-scrolling glory, but presented to look as though all the graphics are done with LEGO bricks and parts. The games will be offered as direct downloads via XBLA, WiiWare, PSN, and DSiWare for play on 360, PS3, PSP, Wii, and DSi. There is no mention of a DS cartridge release of the game, but I’d be surprised if they excluded so much of that console’s audience from this.

The image here is an image from a collection of game scenes redone in LEGO from a few years ago on Flickr. Check that out here.

So instead, what I’m doing is saying, why not a LEGO Castlevania? I’m sure Konami and Traveller’s Tales could get together on this one and pull something out that has the same camera problems the LEGO Star Wars games are known for, but with far poorer sales. Well, at least you and I would buy it. OK, I would.

What do you think? Would you buy LEGO Castlevania?

The Japanese version of the Greatest Hits version of Symphony of the Night for PlayStation? You, sir, don't know how to tempt me at all.

    ( ._.) ..!. big
    ((")(") to Lego Castlevania
  • StephenJMunn
    Wait, what?
  • Is a shame that this is not real...
  • StephenJMunn
I know, right? There already are LEGO skeletons, LEGO axe knights, it's got most everything they need already in the Castle series.
  • Nah, I think games like LEGO Star Wars are too detailed. I'm holding out for DUPLO Star Wars.
  • william745
any adult playing lego duplo is playing it for the wrong reason.
  • What's the RIGHT reason?

I'd probably skip LEGO Castlevania. I've skipped every other entry in the series - why jump in, now?

LEGO Katamari Damacy, maybe. It'd have to be something REALLY different to get me interested.
  • StephenJMunn
You're missing out on Castlevania, but yeah, if you haven't played one, I wouldn't start with the LEGO edition.

I can't even imagine what LEGO Katamari Damacy's sound effects would be like. The constant clattering of plastic. Of course, it would explain why everything sticks.
  • morphiend
But would make it SO much harder to get them to stick, with having to line-up the pieces just right and all. Plus, after some point in time, you're bound to end up with an un-rollable squarizoid. Yeah, I made that last word up.
