GAME Posts Huge Profits In UK, Then Freezes Employee Pay

Submitted by on April 27, 2009 – 12:57 pmNo Comment

logogameukToday, the gaming chain Game in the UK posted up its results for last year and it seems that they made a ton of money.  As a matter of fact, they posted profits up a heathly 75%, and a same store sales up 8% year on year.  Those numbers are rather astonishing and show that there is a healthy retail market in the gaming sector, even overseas.

Funny thing is that right after announcing these steller profits, Game also announced a wage freeze for all of its associates, citing uncertain economic times ahead.  I can totally understand that you might want to hedge your bets and prepare for a slowdown in sales, but to announce a wage freeze right after announcing record profits is a bit tacky, and does not help your position any.  Also factor in the publicity and you have really done yourself a dis-service.
