Submitted by on April 21, 2009 – 5:03 pm6 Comments

EA Sports announced today that all of their upcoming 10 Sports titles for the Wii will include the new Wii Motion Plus accessory.  To lead off the announcement, EA Sports released this video of Disc Golf, a new mode that can be found in the Wii version of Tiger Woods PGA Championship Golf 10.

Note that the fluid motion that is now given from the controller due to the 1:1 motion that Wii Motion Plus adds to the experience.  Not sure if Disc Golf is the best way to show off the gaming experience, but it is nice to know that we may see Wii Motion Plus sooner, rather than later.  Check the jump for a box shot for the Wii version of Tiger Woods 10 as well as a full press release.

I missed the presser, did Peter Moore reveal a Wii Motion Plus tramp stamp or anything?

Disc Golf isn't a good demonstration?!?! Oh you have unleashed the hounds!

I was just talking about buying this game because I just sold Tiger Woods 2009 in anticipation of WMP controls (the pack-in announcement sent a thrill up my leg). But the fact that they are including a game mode for the only sport I still play consistently means game over. I'm going to complain about how they demoed the mode!

First, there are many more discs than simply driver, midrange and putter. What about high speed and low speed fade? Some discs naturally anhyzer when you throw them flat. Second, they were only throwing back-hand. Can I throw the disc forehand? How about a roller? Tomahawk and thumbers? Alternative putting techniques? Third, I would like to see footing options. Run-up, X-Step and stationary options along with jump putting. The unfortunate thing about playing disc golf on a stick-and-ball course is that disc golf is more fun with narrow paths due to heavy trees. After all this, I'm still going to buy the game because EA has to put something better there than the other crap disc golf games that have come out before. Oh and I can do stick-and-ball golf 1:1.

Snore… looks boring.. low res textures… ouch..

“The rules of disc golf are slightly different than regular golf.”

    Well, yes. Firstly, there's a disc involved…

Seriously, though, the star of this video isn't even remotely the game, it's the demonstration of how exact the translation of the Wii MotionPlus controller's movement is. The way that disc moves in the virtual hand is pretty surprising. Now we just need to see games we want to play using this peripheral. Fingers are crossed that Red Steel 2 kicks ass.

  • Andrew Adam says:

I think the disc golf looks great, and this might be the first Tiger Woods game I ever pick up. Can't wait to see some reviews. This is a way to at least get another WMP for just $10 essentially.
