Demigod Hits Store Shelves Early

After using my telescope to find the PC gaming section in my local Gamestop, I noticed a box for Demigod sitting on the shelf. I went up to the counter to ask why it was on the shelf and was told that the game released that very day. This was on Friday or Saturday of last week. Needless to say, the fact that Gamestop jumped the gun, put Stardock on its heels and they have decided to release the game a bit early to meet the retail demand.
Demigod puts you in the shoes of a huge god, that controls an army of beasts and powers in combat in one of several arenas. Demigod features a robust multiplayer component and all of it links into Stardock’s Impulse service. Impulse integrates matchmaking, messaging and other functions into Demigod. This also means that the Games for Windows Live component that was announced for Demigod last year was scrapped. Also, due to being interlinked to the Impulse gaming service, the game will not be available on Steam.
I understand that Impulse wants to get into the digital distribution arena, but even Electronic Arts finally realized that avoiding Steam by using their own download service was losing them sales in the long run. I like Impulse and the fact that my Galactic Civilizations II install can be grabbed from there at any time is nice, but I hated the fact that I could not get Sins of a Solar Empire on Steam.
