Bethesda Tasks Obsidian With Fallout Vegas

As most will tell with my horrible photoshop skills, there is a new Fallout coming to gamers, but the bigger news is not the location, but the team that will be behind the magic.  At a Bethesda event, Pete Hines stated that Fallout Vegas would not be an add-on, like the Shivering Isles add-on for Oblivion, but a completely seperate game, existing in the Fallout universe.

Pete did say that the game would not be a “Fallout Tactics” or “Brotherhood of Steel” game, but an RPG that takes all that was done in Fallout 3, but migrates the setting to a new area, not yet explored in a Fallout game.  Also, Bethesda seems confident that Obsidian can handle development of the title, as a number of Obsidian employees come from Black Isle, the developer behind the first two Fallout games.

I have to admit that I am all for this new Fallout game. Vegas should be a great setting, as it has so many recognizable landmarks, and so much that relates to the Fallout universe, including prostitution, gambling, and an all about sense of anything-goes attitude.  I guess the only issue I can see that might hurt the game is its location in regards to military targets.  Being located so close to Nellis AFB, it would be a prime target for a nuclear strike, decimating most of Las Vegas in the process of said bombing.  I guess we can overlook that one technicality.  I also want to make sure that we can make a side visit or DLC to Groom Lake AFB, aka, Area 51.  It is an obvious location that could work into the story so perfectly.

What do you guys and gals think of this development?  Love it or hate it?  Did you want to see Bethesda working on the development of Fallout Vegas, or are you excited for a new location?  Make sure to comment below.

I think one Fallout game was enough to hold me over for at least three years, especially since that game has so much replayability. I don't really feel like playing through another time-consuming experience so soon.

Wow fallout vegas cmon that just sounds stupid the fallout games are good but if your coming out with another one so soon give it a good name atleast anyway i still dont think they shouldve let this game come out yet way to soon on my opnion

Vegas is not neccesarily the best location. What about Fallout New York? We've been going steadily westward anyway. Or maybe Texas with the Fallout 3 western themes we've been seeing? US annexed Canada in the Fallout universe, but strangely Mexico is never mentioned…Lot of naval bases in the south. Maybe Canada, with the Commonwealth…so many possiblities, so little devlopment time.

So much complaining. I think this is gonna be great!

Its great news. yes if they came out with a new fallout game every year it would ruin the game. just like the rash of world war 2 first person shooters ruined the genre. However its going to take alot of work to make this game so get started now so in three years it will be ready.

I think if they keep true to the game play everything should be freggin awesome reguardless of the location..

i think i would be realy fun and exciting.
but im just wondering what the story line is?
also partal allien invasion or something major with them would be realy cool the area 51 idea nice (they show partal allien in fallout 3 (with allien blaster)) so that woudl be fun to go through or see happen.

Las Vegas is a perfect setting for a fallout game! It'll be all corrupt and cool better than “The capital Wasteland” anyway. Can't wait, theres some other cool places near Las Vegas like the Hoover Dam which could be cool.

After New Reno in Fallout 2, I had always imagined that Fallout 3 would have had a similar setting. Maybe Atlantic City? Of course that never panned out and that sort of dark, 60s gang setting never made it to the game or any of the DLC. With the announcement of Fallout New Vegas, my only thoughts were, “Of course it makes sense.” I am excited. The torch is passed to you Obsidian. Don't let us down. I have no doubts that you won't.

As long as Obsidian is not rushed into producing the sequel, they will do a great job with this title. It is when they are rushed, a la Knights of the Old Republic 2, when things start to fall apart.

SAY What really?!! i have no problem playing another Fallout, played fallout3 and i agree, that the game has alot of replayabillity, but to be able to venture onto Fallout new vegas, is just more excellent ventures and then u can play for six years+ ;) as it stands fallout 3 was an excellent game, but for me i need more venture. and yes iv played fallout 3 and add-ons to its extent. im fully excited for FONV or would it be FNV? CANT WAIT!!!!
