Review: Dragon Ball Z – Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3)

October 28, 2011 – 12:44 pm |

I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

The Many Faces Of Empire Total War

Rock, Paper, Shotgun noticed that there was something strange about the UK and US version of Empire Total War.

Amusingly, I note that the game features different box art in the UK and US. It’s the same shouting Sean Bean-alike front’n’centre, but in the UK he’s wearing a red coat with a British flag waving behind him. In the US? Why, blue coat and star-spangled banner. See above for empirical proof.

It doesn’t end there.  Rock, Paper, Shotgun found out that there is a different cover for almost every European country.  France, Russia, Germany and Poland is just the few who also have customize covers.  It makes since that the game does it so it has more of a appeal to each of the country’s audience.  I just wish Canada had some love.

Check out Rock, Paper, Shotgun to see all the covers.

Canada is America's hat, so you're on the cover, too!

Do you think people in the UK know that the person on the their box's cover is a bad guy? Are we the antagonists to them, or do they not think that King George was a tyrant?

I think it's just market appeal. I honestly don't think this would reignite 300 year old hatreds over cover art. Would you rather buy a UK dude or a US dude? I prefer the US dude.

So is giving the same figure a different uniform a sign that we are all brothers under different banners, or just lazy artistry?

It's definitely the “lazy artistry.” If you'll notice, the countries from which the box arts that have said “same figure” are countries that have a Caucasian majority, Spain being a little iffy. That's probably why we don't see a Chinese, Japanese, Indian, etc. specific box arts.

ROFL I'm of Loyalist descent in Canada, my family was actually split in half during the revolutionary war… The halt on US expansionism further into the interior by British proclamation and the requirment of tax payments to fund the colonial portion of the bill for the 7 years war makes “taxation without representation!” the only apparent US argument (albeit they did deserve a voice in parliament) look like a sad excuse for stabbing your parent nation in the back!! So my only issue is the fact I'm forced to buy the game with the US cover and not the redcoat cover! “Rue Britannia” PS calling the french in to back you up after the seven years war, which Benjamin Franklin was pro French removal and then kissing their ass for support in the future looks very poor!
