Steam Delivers DLC to Far Cry 2

Submitted by on March 19, 2009 – 3:27 pm9 Comments

farcry2boxshotIt is not taking companies long to adjust to the paid DLC model on Steam, as Ubisoft has released the Far Cry 2 Fortunes Pack for $4.99.  In return for you dropping a Lincoln, you will get three new weapons, two new vehicles and five new maps for your multiplaying pleasure.

While I am all in favor for getting new content on a regular basis, that will bring me back to games I sorely need to finish, it sucks that now, PC players are going to have to start feeling the pain of console gamers, and begin to pay for any additional content that is added to a game.  At lease Valve, Epic and a few other companies still believe in the word free.  Check out the jump for the names of the weapons, vehicles and maps that are added to Far Cry 2.

Three brand new weapons, which can be found in the armory:

■Silenced Shotgun
■Sawed-off shotgun
■Crossbow

Two new vehicles, which can be found at various locations throughout the the game in place of cars or other vehicles:

■Unimog (big truck)
■Quad

Five new Multiplayer maps:

■Cheap Labor
■Last Resort
■Lake Smear
■Fort Fury
■Jungle Seizure

All the new weapons and vehicles will be available in Single-player and Multiplayer modes.

i think its funny you mention valve when dont they basically own steam dont they so i think they are just letting other companies play with this till they get the prices right then valve will come in and tighten the loose screws.

I didn't like the game enough to buy the DLC, but that silenced shotgun is awfully tempting. Watching No Country for Old Men will make you feel the same. :D

My only reasoning that shows that Valve will skip charging for DLC is that they are not charging for it on the 360. They have had the ability to collect money on the 360, and they have bypassed that route. So I would assume they would skip it on the PC side as well.

Also, they will be getting a cut of all this DLC money, which can fund their own DLC for free.
