Space Camp Announced for the DS

Submitted by on March 18, 2009 – 1:27 pm14 Comments

spacecampmovieYou cannot believe the excitement that came to my eyes, when I saw the announcement for Space Camp on the DS.  I am not a DS gamer, but I was ready to jump at the chance to guide Lea Thompson, a young and hot Kelly Preston and even Lamar from Revenge of the Nerds.  Easily one of the greatest family adventure movies from the 80′s, I was ready to have some hijinx and adventures on my accidental launch into space.

Of course, after reading the press release, I was a bit disappointed, as there is no movie tie-in for Space Camp, but you still get the full effect of training as an astronaut, and later heading off to the moon to collect samples, solve problems and even combat aliens while defending the moon and the Earth.

Space Camp is being developed with the assistance of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, located in Alabama, and is the premier camp for parents and kids to learn about spaceflight through hands-on experiences.  Check the jump for the full press release.

ACTIVISION PUBLISHING’S SPACE CAMP® TO TOUCH DOWN ON RETAIL SHELVES THIS JUNE

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – March 18, 2009 – Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) has announced the June release of Space Camp® for WiiTM and Nintendo DSTM. Packed with accessible space age mini-games and multiplayer options, it’s not rocket science to launch an unforgettable gameplay session!

In Space Camp®, you begin as an aspiring astronaut in training. After rocketing yourself to the moon, you must engage in a series of futuristic, furiously fun missions in order to return home to Earth. With the help of your own robot, you will perform activities like scientific experimentation, controlling spacecraft and even defending the moon from invaders.

“What could be more fun than playing as an astronaut in a videogame?” said David Oxford, Activision Publishing. “This scenario offers a new perspective on using WiiTM and DSTM controls to craft a truly fresh, family friendly gameplay experience.”

In addition to the robust single player mode, there are several multiplayer options available on the WiiTM. Cooperative Mode allows one player to control the main character while a second can interact with environment. For crews of more than two, Party Mode offers the opportunity for up to four players to take part in raucous competitive mini-game tournaments set on both the Earth and lunar locales.

“We are excited to be partnered with Activision on this project,” said Larry Capps, CEO of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center®. “Thousands dream of going to space and this game gives you that chance to virtually explore and have fun with your friends and family.”

Then you sir, know quality, because it one of the finest films ever created during the 1980's. Well, with the exception of Masters of the Universe, Rocky IV, Red Scorpion and any other Dolph Lundgren film.

what no love for red dawn you sir are dead to me.

Oh… and a little flick known as Back to the Future.

sph back to the future is gay flash dance is where its at.

Back to the Future is amazing with a capital ZING. Over my Christmas break I watched all three parts via my 360's Netflix queue. I felt really lazy, but it was time well spent in my opinion.

I love Red Dawn like any other reb blooded American does, to the point that I get misty eyed when they yell WOLVERINES! as they take out the mean and evil Ruskies. And Back to the Future was great until they got to the third entry in the series. And what can be said about Flashdance except she's a maniac (and a lesbian in The “L” word, mmmmm).

But when you are talking 80's, you cannot escape the fact that Dolph Lundgren took the decade as his own. He liberates a non-descript country of evil Ruskies after being shown the way by a tribal bushman. He stands up against the Proletariat while fighting Rocky in a balls to the wall 12 round brawl. And he saves Eternia from a hamming it up Skeletor in Masters of the Universe. There is no way to combat that greatness.

Arnold comes closest when he drops one liners like they are going out of style in Red Heat and Commando, but close is no contest when it comes to Dolph Lundgren and his double masters degree having self.

  • morphiend

Ahnold dropped more than one liners in Red Heat.
