Please Sony Give Us Dual Analogs!

Submitted by on March 3, 2009 – 3:36 pm11 Comments

pspanalogThere have been a few rumors floating around recently about Sony unveiling a new PSP sometime this year, most likely at E3. I bought an original PSP and I was very happy with it, but not having the second analog stick did bum me out. The PSP could have been a great platform for a good mobile FPS. The PSP still had plenty of games to keep oneself busy but I never understood why Sony never took advantage of there not being an Xboy on the market.

Now that Sony has its first good exclusive shooter (Killzone 2) they could launch a new PSP with dual analogs and have a new Killzone game to go right beside it. To work though they need to make sure to build in dual analogs. I have played a few PSP FPS’s and some were decent, but none were must haves, and that’s a shame. So please Sony, put another analog stick on the new PSP and I will be lined up on day one to get myself one. The longer they wait the more likley the xbox team will move in and take over with Halo mobile, not that I would mind that either, but having two to choose from would be mighty nice! There was a bit of an uproar from some when the PSP came out about there not being a second analog stick, I just hope that it hasn’t been so long that Sony forgot.

Do you want dual analogs on the new PSP? Let us know in the comments.

One thing is for sure, the analog “nub” design has got to go. This would deprive the system of its sleek aesthetic, but the analog stick needs to be more three dimensional. The sliding feeling from the analog nub is nowhere near the same quality as a game pad's analog sticks. However, if they can improve the design of the analog stick, I would love to have two of them. A Killzone title probably wouldn't be the one to showcase it, though, since they already have the Liberation series and that has a weird angled, top-down perspective. Perhaps the new Call of Duty?

I've been a DS guy, but if they start hitting classic games hard on the PSP2 I want these features:

    Dual analog
All digital (no spinning disc crap)
    Touch screen
    Wi-Fi
Cell Phone provider (Not sure if that's a big stretch).

If they don't go digital, I'll be surprised. It's like they thought the UMD would be the end all be all portable format, but it tanked. Not to mention, that disk drive is a hazard. On multiple occasions I've opened my disk drive and the UMD would literally shoot out. Dangerous, but oddly cool.

Have you figured out how to aim them?

Oh I've been practicing for some time now. Currently, my shots are still unpredictable. As soon as I perfect the art of UMD shooting, though, my brother won't know what hit him………until he picks up the UMD off the ground and sees me running away giddily.

Agreed, The second analog could open some real doors for PSP games. I found it difficult to navigate games such as “Metal Gear Solid” and “GUN” with the current controls.

Absolutely agree! But I also think that the analog sticks need to be slighty raised from the PSP as after some hours of play your thumbs begin to lose their skin!

    C'mon Sony…get this one right!

I think there's enough bloody buttons on the thing already. I was about to sell mine but I caught wind of Little Big Planet coming out for the PSP :)

I tried to sell mine a while back, but it didn't go through, and I'm glad it didn't. My PSP is now running custom firmware which I use to emulate NES games (don't worry, I own them, but no amount of blowing or alcohol swabbing will resurrect my old NES) and to listen to podcasts. I find it funny that I listen to a numerous amount of gaming podcasts on my PSP, but only one of the podcasts is Sony-centric (Podcast Beyond).
