Mass Effect 2 coming….. in 2010 (yay?)

Leading video game developer BioWare, a division of Electronic Arts Inc. today officially announced Mass Effect 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the multi award-winning 2007 hit, Mass Effect. The Mass Effect trilogy is a masterful science fiction adventure set in a vast universe filled with dangerous alien life forms and mysterious uncharted planets. In this dark second chapter, Saren’s evil army of Geth soldiers has just been defeated, and humans, who are still struggling to make their mark on the galactic stage, are now faced with an even greater peril…

“We’re going to surpass the extraordinary gaming experience we brought our fans in Mass Effect by delivering intensified combat and expanded weapon options as well as increased depth of planet exploration, all while delivering a powerful, emotionally engaging story,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka, General Manager and CEO, BioWare and General Manager and Vice President, EA. “Mass Effect 2 is shaping up to be an unforgettable RPG-shooter experience, taking players on a non-stop roller-coaster ride filled with stunning plot twists and no-holds-barred action.”

Interesting that it is only being announced for Xbox 360 and Games for Windows. Many speculated EA’s influence would see the sequel release on at least the PlayStation 3, if not giving it the Madden treatment and putting it out on anything with a screen, but regardless one has to wonder what purpose announcing a game so far from release is other than being a big, fat tease.

    I'm drooling like Homer for this game. I hope I can still play as Jordan Shepard, though. Even if it does stretch to 2010, I'm okay because I know they'll use the time to make a great game.

    Don't you mean Josiah Shepard. I am already jumping at the bit for this game, and if it supports Games for Windows Live, I am completely skipping the 360 version. I just wish we could get some more DLC for the first Mass Effect. I remember all that talk about adding new content packs, and after Bring Down the Sky, they just shut off the content. So sad, and I am still playing this game, and I am totally jonesing for some new content to hold me over.

    Don't you mean chomping at the bit? Let's face it, though, you'll buy Mass Effect 2 on PC and 360 because that's the lengths that an achievement whore will go to. Plus, it's a triple-A game so the whoring will be fun instead of painful. I can't wait until they unveil this game.
