Review: Dragon Ball Z – Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3)

October 28, 2011 – 12:44 pm |

I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

LEGO Harry Potter, LEGO Indiana Jones 2 (sort of) confirmed

lego-potterIt’s just short of an official statement, but Games Industry.biz has word of the next entries in Traveller’s Tales LEGO franchise series: LEGO Harry Potter and LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The Potter rumor has bounced around for a while now, but it has always seemed incredibly likely as the property perfectly fits all the criteria for a game in the now-famous LEGO Star Wars mold. TO WIT: Multiple movie storylines/action setpieces to adapt, tons of playable characters, kid-friendly but deep enough for adults, an existing LEGO toy brand… and it doesn’t hurt that Warner Bros owns both the Harry Potter movie series and Traveller’s Tales itself.

The first LEGO Indiana Jones sold well enough – particularly on 360; are they counting the pack-in version as separate sales? – so it seems like a no-brainer to flex those assets for another run. However, I’d call it doubtful that Traveller’s Tales will ever address the series’ core flaws that continue to plague co-op play.

The article also drops an intriguing hint that Traveller’s Tales has readied a pitch for Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings prequel, The Hobbit. Although it is not clear that this would be a LEGO Hobbit game. It could simply be a game-based-on-the-movie, outside of the LEGO trappings. Jackson’s Hobbit isn’t due until 2012, so there’s plenty of time. Seeing as it wasn’t that long ago that we got a decent Hobbit game (based on the book), my fingers are crossed that TT would get the rights for a LEGO version! LEGO LOTR FTW.

PS: I am still so sad we never got a LEGO Speed Racer game.

The Harry Potter universe will lend itself nicely to the Lego games, but I have to disagree with your assessment that the last Hobbit game was good. I have to disagree, as I was completely disappointed with The Hobbit. It had potential, but died a quick death on execution of the concept.

Just like I said about music peripherals, I think Lego games have also reached a saturation point. Just like the Petz *INSERT ANIMAL NAME WITH 'Z' AT THE END HERE* games, the Lego games seem to be the exactly the same with a new paint job.

Ah, but unlike Petz, the LEGO games have done well with picking paint jobs that people actually like.

    Hmm, let's think about this:

Horses, Hamsters, and Tigers……….OR……….Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, and Star Wars

I know where I'd stand. HAMSTERS ARE KICK ASS!
