Review: Dragon Ball Z – Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3)

October 28, 2011 – 12:44 pm |

I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

Guess what? You’re buying another DS!

compare-dsi-ds-lite… or so Nintendo now hopes. If you’re like me, you’ve been pessimestic to the idea of yet another DS hardware iteration hitting the market. I told myself the conditions for buying one from the onset: 1) If DSi Ware turns out to be something substantial and/or 2) Games start being made only for DSi. Well, it looks like at least one of the two are a-coming to make me fork out for yet another DS.

Nintendo announced today during the GDC summit that there are two new game card types coming along with the launch of the Nintendo DSi: DSi cards and DSi-enhanced cards. As the names suggest, DSi cards are designed only to play on a Nintendo DSi system, and DSi-enhanced cards will play on any DS system however extra functions and features will be present (most likely ones involving the camera or downloading to DS) when used on a DSi.

I’m still holding my breath on whether or not I will splurge on one, but now I’m closer than I was to doing so. I know Nintendo, and I know some Mario or Zelda games in the future will require a DSi, so I may as well bite the bullet now. (Although I will likely keep the DS Lite around for GBA games at least >_< )

I don't play my DS: Lite enough to justify buying a DSi. I don't think they'll win me over until the next new handheld generation.

Brad Shoemaker over at Giantbomb.com seems to be highly impressed with the DSi to the point of reneging on his words of not buying one at launch.

Don't forget about this: “For the first six months after launch, consumers who buy the system and connect to the Nintendo DSi Shop will automatically receive 1,000 Nintendo DSi Points.”

That helps defray that $170 price tag a tiny bit.

  • I had a Game Boy since Advance. I got an SP, but gave it to my sister who wanted it more and…well, I wasn't playing the GBA I DID have, fold in half or not.

Just don't have the extra income to own a DSi. Seems interesting – I LOVE WiiWare, so I would probably be way into DSiWare.

But, yeah. The game funding just isn't there.

I'll likely sit DSi out, even if it would probably be a great addition to my daily train commute routine.

I'm already on board, even though I thought I wouldn't be. My 3 year old daughter's getting my DS Lite for her birthday, and my wife and I will be replacing that with a blue DSi. The 1000 Nintendo Points were a big selling point, but we needed a replacement system at this point anyway.
