Resident Evil 4 and 5 implement the love it or hate it "tank controls" used to create suspense and fear. Multiplayer shooters are generally centered around fast-paced, hectic running and gunning. A bunch of players fast-walking around maps, stopping, slowly aiming, losing their target, fast-walking again, stopping, etc. would be the epitome of boredom (a little excessive, but it gets the point across). When compared to Halo, Call of Duty, and even GTA IV, this is hardly even a good idea. I sense that there will be massive disappointment in the future of RE5 (in regards to the Versus mode only).

What's wrong with Resident Evil multiplayer, conceptually? I mean, the game is about running around and killing things. Sounds like a no-brainer that eventually they'd keep stabbing at that, especially after learning what not to do during those two Outbreak games. Other formerly-single-player-only games have made this leap with mostly OK results (Metal Gear, GTA).

I was upset about this until we talked to Nick on the podcast, and he had it right. I think the DLC is not an issue necessarily, but the timing of the announcement. If they would have waited for a few weeks after the release, then there would have been little issue. But to announce it a day before the game comes out, that irritates gamers. The PR people at Capcom should have put the hold on the announcement for a couple of weeks after release.

Alright, here's how Capcom should have handled this in the first place. Resident Evil 5 is not suited AT ALL for a Versus style multiplayer. There is no justification as to why there has to be a Versus mode at all. The Slayer's Rule mode should have been shipped on the disk for free. Why include a local version of this mode if you aren't going to have an online version alongside it? Someone grab the DeLorean so I can stop this from ever happening.
